I met with Judith Malina in September 2012 in her Clinton Street's theatre. I wanted to document her creating process. So I asked her if I could stick around from start to finish. The play was “No Place To Hide”.
At the time I didn’t know it would be the last play done in Clinton Street. She received a notice of expulsion a few weeks later, before the premiere. So I ended up documenting the last 6 months in Clinton Street. From rehearsals done in the theatre to the daily life in the apartment.
Life in Clinton Street was electric. Judith had her apartment upstairs were she presided. People were constantly coming and going, sometime even sleeping everywhere if needed. Company members were coming everyday to cook for her. Judith loved having people around. Days and nights.
In March 2013, Judith moved regretfully to the Lillian Booth Actors Home in New Jersey where slowly her health weakened. (She had been diagnosed with emphysema a few years before).
Judith died on April 10th, 2015. She was 88 years old.
